Enabulele Emerges First Nigerian WMA Executive Chairman

A Nigerian, Dr Osahon Enabulele, a practising Chief Consultant Family Physician and President of the Commonwealth Medical Association, has been re-elected as Chairman of the Socio-Medical Affairs Committee/Executive Committee member of the World Medical Association.

Enabulele was unanimously re-elected for a second term as Chairman of the Socio-Medical Affairs Committee(SMAC) of the World Medical Association.

His re-election took place during the 217th Council Session of the World Medical Association (WMA) attended by delegates from over 50 countries (including Nigeria, USA, UK, Germany, Japan, China, etc) and hosted in Seoul, South Korea.

Before his election, the representative of the German Medical Association, Dr Ramin Parsa-Parsi, had earlier nominated Dr Osahon Enabulele for the position, stating that Dr Enabulele had dutifully executed all his previous responsibilities with distinction to the admiration of all and sundry.

Following his nomination, there were calls for further nomination but no further nominations were advanced.

Dr Enabulele was therefore unanimously affirmed with a loud ovation and elected as the Chairman of the Socio-Medical Affairs Committee to serve a second term.

The Socio-Medical Affairs Committee is one of the only 3 standing committees in the World Medical Association, the others being the Medical Ethics Committee and the Finance and Planning Committee.

By his re-election, Dr Enabulele retains his position as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Medical Association.

Dr Enabulele became the very first Nigerian to be ever elected as a Committee Chairman and Executive Committee member of WMA since the WMA was founded in September 1947, when he was first elected as the SMAC Chairman in far way Chile in 2019.
